Collecting and distributing food: Trainees help at the food bank “Tafel” - donation supports people in difficult situations

Help for people in difficult situations: The HÜBNER Group supports the food bank “Tafel Kassel e.V.” with a donation of 15,000 euros. In this way, the company helps to ensure that children and adults receive reliable food and that volunteers can do important social work. In keeping with this, HÜBNER trainees helped out for a day and thus gained insights into voluntary work.

Support for valuable work

“We know how important the work of the food bank ‘Tafel’ is, especially in these times – and that it is becoming increasingly important,” says Claus Schäfer, Managing Director of the HÜBNER Group.“The number of people who are dependent on support is increasing. With our donation, we would like to pass on some of our entrepreneurial success and help volunteers to continue their valuable work.”

Helga Schmucker-Hilfer accepted the HÜBNER donation on behalf of the “Tafel”: “Our work lives from the voluntary and energetic, but also from the financial commitment of many supporters,” says Helga Schmucker-Hilfer, Deputy Chairwoman of “Tafel Kassel”. “The donation from the HÜBNER Group gives us a bit of planning security and shows that cohesion is lived in Kassel – that’s exactly what we need in these times.”

Volunteer help for 3,500 people

The food bank “Tafel Kassel” currently supplies around 3,500 people, including about 1,000 children. Last year alone, 135 volunteers collected around 650 tons of food, which they distributed to people in difficult life situations.

The food distributions are also occasions for social exchange between customers and with volunteers. Lonely people in particular have regular points of contact and contacts here.

Trainees lend a hand

The financial support was accompanied by a trainee campaign. For one morning, HÜBNER trainees Leonie Gradwol, Morten Ochs and Sascha Randel were actively involved and supported the volunteers in collecting, sorting and distributing food.

“It was impressive to see how many people are supported here every day and how much commitment is behind it,” says Leonie Gradwol, trainee at HÜBNER. “We were able to lend a hand right away – and noticed how important every helping hand is.”

Economic action and social responsibility

Training at HÜBNER combines professional qualification with personal development. In addition to practical projects, the program also includes additional offers such as a possible internship abroad or cross-departmental insights.

“Our trainees experience how economic activity and social responsibility belong together,” emphasizes Claus Schäfer. “Special days of action like at the ‘Tafel’ provide insights beyond the horizon. They strengthen team spirit, social skills and a sense of responsibility.”
