Folding bellows for
connecting buildings
HÜBNER folding bellows are ideal for connecting high buildings such as towers.
- The challenge here is this: It is not possible to build solid bridges between two towers because such constructions can put the whole structure under too much stress, due to factors such as wind, thermal expansion or earthquakes.
- The solution from HÜBNER: Folding bellows to connect bridges and buildings with each other. They absorb all incidental movements thus preventing possible damages.

Guests at the Makkah Clock Royal Tower Hotel in Saudi Arabia, for example, pass through folding bellows made by HÜBNER when they make use of the connecting bridges between the towers of the hotel. HÜBNER folding bellows are also used to connect the two towers of the Belly Sky Hotel in Copenhagen.
Furthermore, it is possible to integrate folding bellows simply as a versatile design element in an architectural structure. Folding bellows of this type can be found, for example, in the building of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Bremen, Germany.

special vehicles
With special vehicles, manufacturers are often confronted with special challenges. For one type of vehicle, for example, a flexible connection between the vehicle parts may be required, while for another adjustability of the roof's height might be an important factor. In both cases, folding bellows from HÜBNER provide a solution.

Connections between the driver's cab and the main vehicle
- The challenge here is this: In special vehicles such as expedition vehicles, off-road motorhomes or fire trucks, the driver's cab and the main part of the vehicle must be able to move separately from each other. However, in many cases, there should still be a connection between them, for example when people should also be transported in the rear element. This is forbidden when the two parts of the vehicle are completely separated.
- The solution from HÜBNER: Folding bellows are used for the connection between the driver's cab and the rest of the vehicle. Thanks to the bellows' flexibility, the two elements of the vehicle can move independently of each other while having a connection between the two parts makes it possible to transport people both in the driver's cab and the rear element.

- The challenge here is this: In vehicles such as motor homes or horse trucks, sometimes more space and headroom are required. While driving, however, the roof must be fully closed.
- The solution from HÜBNER: A pop-up folding bellows makes it possible to raise the roof when desired and lower it as required. Such a roof solution is weatherproof and secure against break-ins.

Folding bellows
as noise protection
In addition to the benefits delivered by folding bellows in rail and bus transport, folding bellows also have another important use for a more specialized application. They insulate very effectively against noise.
They thus provide a way to significantly reduce noise pollution.
- The challenge: Noise pollution is often very high during construction work – for example, during the construction of building foundations and understructures. On open streets, such activities quickly leads to noise exposure that is annoying and stressful for construction workers, nearby residents and passers-by.
- The solution from HÜBNER: Large, round folding bellows can be put up to surround the point of excavation and contain this noise, making it possible to reduce noise emissions by at least 10-12 dB(A).
Special-purpose folding bellows of this type are manufactured according to the customer's exact specifications.
The largest noise protection folding bellows has a length of 40 meters and an interior diameter of 5 meters.
Folding bellows for
wharf to ship connections
Folding bellows are used to ensure safe boarding at wharves and jetties. They allow for a flexible connection between the wharf and the ship so that passengers and personnel can board a ship or come on land safely and with dry feet.
The benefit: Thanks to the folding bellows, the wharf gangways are flexible and can be adjusted for different particular conditions and requirements.
