Exchange with scientific community: HÜBNER is a partner of the Local Transport Days - Symposium for public transport in Kassel

The HÜBNER Group is a premium partner of this year’s Local Transport Days (“Nahverkehrs-Tage”) in Kassel. “Mobility turnaround and public transport: How do we get everyone on board before the train has left?” This is the motto of the two-day symposium with accompanying exhibition on 21 and 22 September at the Südflügel of Kulturbahnhof Kassel, where transportation experts from Germany and abroad will meet.

Innovations in close exchange with science

As a global system provider, HÜBNER continues to develop innovations for the mobility industry, also in close cooperation with the scientific community. “We follow technical discussions in transportation science with great interest. They are important sources of inspiration for HÜBNER in the development of new products and solutions. We look forward to following closely current trends at the Local Transport Days 2023 and getting involved in the discussions,” says Uwe Bittroff, Managing Director of the HÜBNER Group.

The organisers of the Local Transport Days are the Regional Management of North Hesse, the Department of Transportation Planning and Traffic Systems at the University of Kassel as well as the North Hessian Transport Association (Nordhessischer Verkehrsverbund, NVV), the Kassel Transport Company (Kasseler Verkehrs-Gesellschaft, KVG) and the German Transportation Science Society (Deutsche Verkehrswissenschaftliche Gesellschaft, DVWG) North Hesse.

Steering technology for high-capacity buses

One example of an innovation developed by HÜBNER in cooperation with science is the steering technology for high-capacity buses, which can be used to safely steer these 36-meter-long vehicles with space for up to 300 people through road traffic. The impact of this innovation – developed jointly with the Fraunhofer System for Transportation and Infrastructure Systems (IVI) in Dresden – extends far beyond the product level.

“High-capacity buses look like trams running on rubber wheels and are particularly well-suited for cities and metropolises that require large transport capacities in a short amount of time,” explains Dr. Stefanie Böge, Head of Development Projects at HÜBNER’s Mobility Road Business Division. “We see vehicles with our steering system as a supplement to existing systems in public transport, as they can be comparatively cost-efficient, quickly ready for use and can also be integrated into an existing road infrastructure at short-term.”

High-performance product solutions for the mobility of tomorrow

Managing Director Uwe Bittroff emphasizes that high-performance product solutions can provide important impulses for the mobility turnaround. Further examples from the HÜBNER product portfolio: Innovations for the SensIQtouchless door safety and sealing system provide passengers with even better protection against entrapment. A new double ramp that combines electric and manual operation ensures constant accessibility when boarding and disembarking.

“Together with our customers all over the world, we are constantly bringing important innovations to rail and road that will make public transport more efficient, safer and more comfortable in the future,” says Uwe Bittroff. “With more reliability and increased ride comfort, public transport can become a real alternative to private transport for more and more people.”
