HÜBNER’s “1.60 Meters of the Bus”: On the way to greater sustainability - Busworld Europe: Innovations in articulation and folding bellows fabric

More energy efficiency and innovative material solutions: With a clear focus on delivering even more sustainability, the HÜBNER Group is presenting its latest developments for systems in articulated buses. These include a weigh-reduced articulation unit, newly developed folding bellows fabrics as well as special design elements for greater passenger comfort. At Busworld Europe, the HÜBNER Group will be showcasing these innovations in Hall 7, Booth 755 in Brussels from 4 - 9 October.

Experience from 100,000 systems on the market

“With our many years of experienced coming from more than 100,000 HÜBNER systems on the market, we are focusing on providing more sustainability and passenger comfort,” reports Uwe Bittroff, Managing Director of the HÜBNER Group. “We are continuously developing our ‘1.60  Meters of the Bus’ with state-of-the-art components and tailored systems for our customers.”

E-Mobility: A contribution to weight reduction

The low-floor articulation HNGK 28.2 is an innovative concept to meet the requirements coming with the ongoing expansion of electromobility. Thanks to highly developed cast materials and significantly optimised weight, it stands out with improved ground clearance for buses and HÜBNER’s proven ease of maintenance. The articulation control unit ACU4 of the latest generation fulfills all functional and cyber-security requirements.

“Our goal is to make an important contribution to weight reduction in articulated buses,” explains Christian Arndt, Sales Manager for Articulation Systems Mobility Road at the HÜBNER Group. “In comparison to our previous standard articulation, we have been able to reduce the weight by 42 percent. With our weight-optimized HNGK 28.2, we are creating space for higher battery ranges and passenger capacities.”

Setting standards with the new folding bellows material Ecoflex

The HÜBNER Group is presenting a new folding bellows fabric as another innovation for articulation systems. “Our innovative Ecoflex fabric not only sets new standards in fire protection, it also provides great benefits in sustainability and insulation performance,” says Christian Arndt.

In combination with a newly developed inner bellows, Ecoflex furthermore stands out for its thermal and acoustic insulation properties, which optimize noise levels and energy consumption at the same time. At Busworld, HÜBNER is presenting Ecoflex in a modern carbon look, which has been developed in-house as has the formula for the new fabric’s coating. With its exceedingly low fire load, Ecoflex also ensures greater safety in public transport.

For a feel-good atmosphere: Folding bellows in a new light

Another HÜBNER innovation enhances the passenger experience in the articulation segment of the bus. Lighting elements installed directly in the folding bellows increase the comfort of passengers and provide a greater sense of safety. The LED illumination complements other design elements that are already available, such as translucent fabric materials.

The center frame is an ideal location for LED lighting, as the corresponding components can be easily installed and maintained there. Depending on customer wishes, HÜBNER also offers solutions where the lighting elements are directly installed in the folding bellows.
