AMiT Transportation acquires GERSYS GmbH - HÜBNER Group sells affiliated company

AMiT Transportation, a leading player in the development of control systems and electronics for the transport sector, especially for railway and rolling stock, has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of the shares in GERSYS GmbH. GERSYS is a leading provider of onboard electronics for rail vehicles and has previously been part of the HÜBNER Group, Kassel. With this step, AMiT Transportation, strengthens its position in the German and European rail market.

GERSYS GmbH will be assigned to AMiT Transporation, which specializes in the development and manufacture of electronic solutions for the transport sector, and will continue to operate as an independent brand. Thorsten Sprenger will remain Managing Director of GERSYS and will be responsible for this business area together with Michal Dolejš, CEO of AMiT Transportation s.r.o.

Strategic reinforcement for the DACH market

With the acquisition of GERSYS, AMiT Transportation gains a renowned partner with 25 years of engineering tradition and deep roots in the European rail market. Based in Wolfratshausen near Munich, the company employs around 65 people and is one of the most respected providers of onboard electronics - especially graphical displays (HMI/IDU/MMI) - for rail and special-purpose vehicles in Europe. “With this acquisition, we are taking a decisive step in further expanding our position in the European rail market”, explains Michael Fohrer, President at AMiT Transportation. "Together, we will be able to offer our customers a significantly broader product spectrum in the future: from electronic onboard systems and passenger information and train control systems to modern monitoring solutions. Furthermore, with the GERSYS development and production site in Wolfratshausen we are strengthening our presence in Germany.”

On a growth trajectory

With GERSYS, AMiT Transportation continues to pursue its consistent growth strategy. Following the acquisitions of TopPower (now AMiT Production) and Bustec over the past three years, the integration of GERSYS marks the next step in substantially expanding the company’s market presence in the DACH region. As an experienced specialist, GERSYS is a targeted addition to the portfolio and will further strengthen AMiT Transportation’s position in this market. “Our goal is to establish AMiT Transportation as a European frontrunner in electronic systems for rail vehicles and public transport within the next three years,” says Michael Fohrer. In the medium term, AMiT Transportation and GERSYS plan to further develop their joint offering and tap into new markets in the European rail and public transport sector.

Statement of the HÜBNER Group

“We are pleased to have found new owners in AMiT Transportation, who would like to expand existing activities and business areas and thus also develop new, promising future prospects for GERSYS. We wish the new owners every success for this,” says Kai Mentel, Managing Director of the HÜBNER Group and responsible for the Mobility Rail business division. “Our sincere thanks go to all colleagues at GERSYS for the work they have done. With their commitment, they have achieved very good results in recent years despite some challenges and thus contributed to the success of their company and thus also to the development of the HÜBNER Group as a whole.”

HÜBNER Group focus on further development of portfolio

At the HÜBNER Group, the strategic decision has been made for the Mobility Rail business division to focus more on the further development of the product and service portfolio far away from cockpit solutions. In the course of this process, existing shareholdings were reviewed and revalued.
