HÜBNER SUPPORTS THE NORTH HESSEN STUDENTS’ RESEARCH CENTER

Kassel, Germany. Developing and promoting a passion for technology among young people – that's the aim behind the HÜBNER Group's strengthening of its cooperation with the North Hessen Students' Research Center (Schülerforschungszentrum Nordhessen - SFN). In the coming years, the HÜBNER Group will become the main sponsor of the educational facility at which young persons in grades 5 to 13 are given the chance to conduct high-level scientific research in various technical fields.

"We want to support pupils from the region doing their own experiments and projects – especially in laser research – and thus awaken their interest for this technology at an early stage," explained HÜBNER General Partner Ingolf Cedra at the signing ceremony for the cooperation. In keeping with this, the introduction of a "laser class" is also among the upcoming plans for the Research Center.  At HÜBNER, Cedra is responsible for the business segment Photonics in which the company's activities in the areas of laser, terahertz and high-frequency technology are centered. The company, which is well-known as the global market leader in the production of gangway systems for buses and trains, has been developing the new Photonics business segment in recent years.

The Students' Research Center already received support from HÜBNER in 2017 and 2018. "The work at the Center impressed us so much that we began to think about undertaking a long-term cooperation," recounted Cedra. The cooperation agreement establishes the basis for comprehensive sponsoring of the Center until 2021.

"We are very pleased about the cooperation," emphasized Klaus-Peter Haupt, the director and initiator of the Students' Research Center. "Now we not only have the means to undertake research that involves more technical equipment, the cooperation also allows our students to have direct contact with the laser experts at HÜBNER." Also planned as part of the cooperation are internship offerings at the company for the students. The cooperation agreement between HÜBNER and the Research Center relates generally to projects in the so-called MINT disciplines (mathematics, information technology, natural sciences and technology) in which questions and topics from these areas are considered.
