With a design speed of up to 360 km/h, while running quietly, smoothly and with excellent energy efficiency
These trains are designed to travel at up to 360 km per hour and are known in Italy as Frecciarossa – the Red Arrow – because of their characteristic red paint. That the ETR1000 trains from Hitachi Rail are able to run so quietly and smoothly and with such impressive energy efficiency also has to do with the HÜBNER gangway systems that will be installed.
The key component in the gangways are the distinctive corrugated bellows with their aerodynamic fairing technology. These bellows fit flush with the overall contour of the vehicle, thereby reducing air resistance significantly.
“The fairing system increases the riding comfort of passengers by reducing noise levels,” explains Carmine Giordano, Site Manager of HÜBNER Italia.“At the same time, our gangway systems also ensure that the ETR1000 trains use less energy during operation. ETR1000 trains are equipped with high-speed gangways from HÜBNER since 2010
Hitachi Rail has equipped its trains for Trenitalia with the innovative HÜBNER gangways since 2010. These trains are in daily operation in Italy and in Spain. The high-speed trains make an important contribution in bringing commuters to their destinations in major cities quickly, safely and reliably. Now Trenitalia has placed an order to Hitachi Rail for additional vehicles.
ETR1000 trains in operation throughout Europe
The new ETR1000 trains are primarily intended for the Italian high-speed network. HÜBNER will be delivering the gangway systems from 2025 to 2029 for the trains that will be in use in Italy as well as on high-speed routes throughout Europe.
