Best fire protection for door safety systems in buses - HÜBNER offers an expanded portfolio of safety contact edges

The HÜBNER Group has expanded its portfolio for door safety systems with an innovative range of new developments. At the Busworld Europe exhibition in Brussels, Belgium (7 - 12 October 2023, Hall 7, Booth 755), the company will be presenting new safety contact edges. The new models in the SensIQ contact product range guarantee enhanced passenger safety through the best fire safety standards in the industry.

“Our newly developed safety contact edges set new standards,” says Martin Breuniger, Senior Product Manager SensIQ for the HÜBNER Group.“In the development of materials and products, HÜBNER is known for its special expertise in the area of fire safety. It’s part of our self-image that we provide fire protection in proven HÜBNER quality for all our solutions in the area of door safety systems."

Compatible with all standard systems in public transport

This full compatibility comes with the successful addition of models with cross-sections of 18 x 5.8 as well as 15 x 5.2 millimeters to the contact edges already available. They fulfill all of the requirements of fire safety standard UN ECE-R 118/03 as well as the standard UN ECE-R 107, which regulates anti-trap protection. “The new models Theta 18/2 and Theta 15 complete the HÜBNER product line SensIQ contact, which now offers compatible products for all of the standard systems commonly used in public transport,” emphasizes Martin Breuniger.

Complete system or individual components – flexibility for customers

Customers can now order SensIQ contact as a complete system with finger protection profile and safety contact edges. And HÜBNER also offers the components individually for installation in existing systems. “Our new developments make it possible for bus and train manufacturers as well as manufacturers of door systems to be far more flexible with their procurement practices,” explains Martin Breuniger.

SensIQ contact is a safety system used in the entry area of buses and trains. The system is integrated into finger protection profiles and ensures that persons and objects will not be caught in the closing doors. As soon as an object or a passenger comes into contact with it, a switching pulse is generated and the door opens again or is held open. In addition, SensIQ contact fulfills the high requirements of standards IP68 and IP69K.

Contact edges at the HÜBNER booth at Busworld

HÜBNER will be showing the newly developed safety contact edges at its Busworld booth. With the test models on display, customers and other interested persons can get a first-hand impression of the top-quality functionality and characteristics of the products.

A further advantage of the extended product range is the compatibility of all materials used, which HÜBNER will be able to supply with high delivery reliability. The new SensIQ contact developments as well as the finger protection profiles and all other safety contact edges are made with ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (EPDM). “Thanks to its compatibility, EPDM delivers long-lasting and reliable functionality - ready to serve through the entire bus life-cycle,” points out Martin Breuniger.

With GWU HÜBNER bundles competencies in the company group

In the development of the new components for door safety systems, bundling competencies and experiences within the HÜBNER Group was a crucial success factor. In 2019, HÜBNER acquired the company Gummi-Welz GmbH & Co. KG (GWU). Headquartered in Neu-Ulm, Germany, GWU is now fully integrated in the HÜBNER Group and has specialized in solutions and products for door safety systems for many years.
